Tactile Time
This is a concept for knowing the time without seeing it. It uses differences in height that allow the user to feel the time. This device has a very low learning curve.
The existing Braille watches (HMT) can open and allow the user to touch the hands and read the time using the Braille symbols around the dial. However the hands are not strong enough and might move when touched
This concept uses a simple quartz watch mechanism. The hands are replaced by disks that have an upward spiral that allows the user to feel the bump and tell the time.
The most important thing to keep in mind is that the disk is as light as possible. The existing prototype uses a sun board Ring stuck to an OHP sheet to reduce weight. A quartz watch mechanism is used to move the disks.
