Re-framed

SOLUTION

Re-framed  is a universal open storage & organization solution that can be customized according to the needs of the user and the space it is in. This 5 foot frame allows users to create an open storage space that allows easy, quick and organized interaction.

This furniture piece uses accessories that can be added, removed and replaced to optimize its use for the space it is in and the specific habits & needs of the user.

CHALLENGE

Objects needed for a specific activity are rarely in the same spot and are spread out over the room in different areas of the space.

There is a need for a storage solution that allows users to better organize their possessions according to their specific needs.

I started off by looking at daily rituals that users perform and tracked their movement through the home space.

MOODBOARD

The concept should have a clean, simple and minimal look that allows the piece to fit into any style or scenario.

Switching between functions must allow an enjoyable, quick and easy interaction.

Form Ideation & Development

Keeping our driving insights in mind, I started developing initial ideas for form, accessory attachment, mounting style, interaction and joinary.

This led to the creation 4 concept directions of varying form & mounting styles.

Feedback

Frame Iteration

The frame still did not have very good sheer strength. As a next step, I developed multiple frame iterations and rated them against aesthetic and strength.

The Frame has an inclined form that allows objects at a height to hang behind the lower accessories.

14.png

The Accessories can be attached at any height or side using a pin hole mechanism, making it adaptable to any need and pattern of use. Each accessory is used as a separate counter to help make organization easier

15.png

The frame is held together using L shape stock extruded connectors at each corner for better strength & stability.

The furniture piece can grow using multiple frames to accommodate more features. This set up can vary from a frame for a very specific activity to a general wall storage unit.

The frame is available in Oak, Cherry & Walnut; allowing it to fit most home styles.
